What to do if your Boyfriend Rarely Calls You

by | Love and Romance

May 20, 2023

Though it can be very frustrating to be with someone who does not like phone calls, it is possible to enjoy a healthy relationship despite this. We are here to help; this is what to do if your boyfriend rarely calls you.

Talk to Him About It

It is likely that your boyfriend does not even know that he barely calls you.

He may be out there thinking that he does quite enough.

Don’t accuse him or point fingers. Just relay what you feel. Tell him how his not calling you often impacts your relationship.

Find out why he doesn’t call you enough. If he says, it is because he does not like phone calls, find ways to convince him that phone calls are not that bad.

Ask that he tries to call you more. You can leave him a promise that if he does succeed in calling you more, you will make him his favorite dish once a week.

2. Play a Game I call “The First Caller Wins.”

If you want your boyfriend to call you more, you have to find ways to introduce some fun into the whole ‘calling’ thing.

Make it a game. And of course, there has to be a prize for the winner of the game.

You can say: “The person who calls the other the most this week is going to win this prize.”

I promise, if the prize is good enough, your boyfriend is going to begin calling you more.

Sooner or later, he is going to get used to calling you even when there is no prize on the line.

A win-win for both of you.

You can introduce this game to other areas of your relationship if you wish to see changes. It makes coping fun.

3. Make Phone Calls More Fun for Him

It is usually a difficult thing to accept for most women, but sometimes, your boyfriend does not like phone calls with you because they are not fun.

James told us: “In the early years of my relationship with my girlfriend, I used to call her so little because she was not much fun over the phone. This changed when she began to be more fun. I feel like a lot of women need to get the hang of why men do not like to call them that much.”

Some of the things you can do to make your phone calls more fun are:

– Telling stories: phone calls are a way to woo your boyfriend with your amazing storytelling skills. Over the phone, tell him as many stories about yourself and your day.

4. Keep the Phone Calls Short for Now

When your boyfriend starts to call you more in response to the game I mentioned earlier, you should try as much as you can to keep the calls short.

I can tell this is going to be uncomfortable for you, especially if you truly love your boyfriend and want to hear his voice quite often. But it is needful. Let the calls be short. And as he gets used to calls, you can extend the length.

5. Limit Contact Off Phone Calls

I have noticed that guys, especially those who say they do not like phone calls, do not like to call their girlfriends because there is an alternate means of communication and contact.

Take away these options, and you will see a marked improvement in how often he calls you.

Let’s say you used to text each other for around two or three hours a day.

You can reduce this to thirty minutes.

When he asks why you have been texting him so little lately, say it is because you are busy or because being on the phone and texting that long is beginning to mess with your eyes.

I can bet he is going to call you more.

Do what I suggested earlier. Don’t make the calls too long just yet. Short phone calls are the most preferred for now.

6. Accept that he May Really not Like Phone Calls

If, after trying everything I have mentioned here, your boyfriend still doesn’t call you as much as you want, then it may be time to do the only rational thing left to do: accept that he does not like phone calls.

Yes, there are guys like that. I know you come across posts that insist a man who doesn’t call you doesn’t love you. These posts are only partial truths. The whole truth is a man who does not make time for you does not love you.

As long as your boyfriend is making time to text you and keep tabs on the little details in your life, you should remain embracing of him even if he rarely calls you.

7. It is Fine if You do the Calling

Yes, it is. If your boyfriend rarely calls you, then do the calling! It does not make you weak or clingy. It just means you are so in tune with your feelings you would not hurt them over some competition about who calls more or who calls less.

There is a possibility that by just calling him more, your boyfriend may become open to calling you as well.

8. Find Other Means to Communicate

Other than calls, there are many ways to communicate with your boyfriend.

Try them out.

You can try video calls. Or sending voice messages when you text. Voice messages often give the feel of a phone call. I have found that this technique is helpful to quite a number of couples.

9. Set up More Dates

Not talking over the phone with your boyfriend can affect your relationship.

While texting is a good alternative, texting barely feels the same way. You can get a lot of misunderstandings while texting because texts do not carry that much emotion and clarity.

Heal this by meeting more. Never rely on just texts as the driving force of your relationship.

10. Go No Contact

Used ‘only’ as a last resort if your boyfriend rarely calls you, the No Contact Rule can be helpful with this kind of stuff.

Summary

You can get your boyfriend to start calling you more, or you can find ways to deal with him not calling you enough.
