How to Deal with Seasonal Allergies

by | Health & Wellness

Jul 20, 2022

Allergies are a common condition. If exposure to dust, pollen, or even cold gives you sneezing spells, itchy eyes, and maybe even tightness in the chest, you just might have allergies. Allergies can last all year round in some people. In others, they may be seasonal. I will be suggesting ways to deal with seasonal allergies.

Here are 5 ways you can deal with seasonal allergies.

1. Be Observant

If you suffer from allergies, the first thing you owe yourself is some carefulness. People without allergies may give little attention to their bodies—but not you. Be very observant; pay a close eye to what triggers you. It takes some time, but you will eventually get the hang of it.

Most people with seasonal allergies come down with allergic symptoms when exposed to pollen, dust, or cold. Others may show allergic symptoms when they eat certain foods, like seafood and others. As mentioned earlier, these symptoms may range from mild to severe.

2. Avoid Allergens

When you have taken the time to really identify what triggers you, then what is left to do is to avoid them. I don’t think it is needful to explain why.

Don’t think that your allergies have suddenly gone missing because you don’t feel symptoms anymore. Continue to avoid.

Cover yourself up in the coldness of winter.

Don’t go into areas where there is a lot of pollen in the spring.

Don’t sleep in pillows made of material that makes you sneeze.

Don’t have pets around for too long if they trigger you.

In the summer, it is likely you will also experience allergies because there is grass pollen everywhere. If you must go out, you can likely wear a face mask.

3. Take Antihistamines

Antihistamines are a class of drugs that can reduce the effect of histamines.

Histamines are proteins that mediate allergic reactions. Blocking them, simply put, is basically just blocking your allergies.

A number of antihistamines are available over the counter. You can take them when you feel overwhelmed by your allergies.

It is best, though, that you go to a doctor and get a prescription.

People who have asthma usually need to take inhalers. Have a doctor prescribe you one if your allergies grow worse.

4. Warm Baths

When you have allergic symptoms like rhinitis and sinusitis, a warm bath may help relieve your symptoms, especially if your allergies are a result of a cold.

Get out of the cold and into a warm bath.

The warmth is going to soothe the inflammation in your nasal mucosa, making the irritation go away. It also gets easy to blow off mucus when you are warm.

5. Diet

You may be surprised by this, but certain foods may be able to soothe allergies because they contain certain compounds that are anti-inflammatory.

Some foods that may be able to soothe allergies include ginger, turmeric, and foods that contain enough omega-3 fatty acids.

Summary

If you pay attention, your allergies will not get the best of you.
